staircase
objekt at the German Language Institute- Mannheim

the staircase is a strange, semi-real place – in their thoughts, people are still in the room they have left, or already at their next destination. it is a lost-in-thought place with little present and a lot of immediate past and imminent future.
the road is also route between two points but with a lot of diversion (advertising, traffic noise, obstacles, shop-window displays) – not such a quiet in-between space interrupted by noises of going upstairs.

in relation to the place of the language institute, the individual fields not only symbolise the assembled steps, but also the units/elements of language that the observer composes into meaning.
